What to do with the Lodge?
At first it didn't look like the lodge could be moved...that is, until John Hanson, Dave Curran and Duane Thorsteinson took a good, long look at the building and found that it was, even though old, stucturally sound enough that if taken apart, it could be virtually rebuilt with a bit of replacing of worn out timbers and flooring, and brought up to code for today's requirements.
Upon learning this, the Love the Lodge Committee swung into action, raising the money for the dismanteling and moving.
Total costs are estimated at $210,000.00, which includes footings, crawl space, new rafters, a serving kitchen, all utilities, and handicapped access bathrooms. Fundraising efforts to date stand at $103,000.00 including cash, pledges, and volunteer labor.

UPDATE: We raised the necessary amount!!
Thank you so much for helping!!

(Personally, I'm always relieved when the contractor is smiling...)

The Love the Lodge Committee members have been preparing for the dismantling, re-erection, and renovation of the Eaton Lodge as well as well as raising funds to make this move possible. Shortly after Labor Day 2010, the Lodge will be taken apart and moved.

In this picture, they are looking over the plans for dismantling and rebuilding the Lodge. Many hours of planning has gone into this operation.

Dismantling has already begun. We need your help to put the Lodge back together on the new site.

Duane Thorsteinson, our General Contractor has 40 employees to oversee the project and will donate the labor to remove the lodge roof, a generous $15,000 gift!
“We’re restoration contractors and have donated a lot of work and materials to Bonanzaville in Fargo and other Bible camps in Minnesota."
“I’m really impressed by what you’ve done and the funds you’ve raised," he said. “People from outside your local area don’t come to the Badlands to see everything new. They come to the Badlands to see the old, and step back into time. The Lodge is a unique building and can be brought up to code and made very functional. With the insulation we’re putting into the roof and the four foot crawl space, the Lodge will be ready to be heated and cooled, should you want to do that.”

Here's What Long Term Camp Supporters Say:

"
I think it's GREAT that you have members of the Congregational and
Catholic Churches as well as Lutherans in leadership roles to move the Lodge. That’s
how a Bible Camp ought to be! I think that people will give grain or a calf, as they are
able, out of gratitude for the good crops and prices."
––Larry Jackson, Reeder, ND retired elevator manager

"We were initially against moving the Lodge. No one told us that people from
outside the area like the old when they come to Medora. We also had no idea that the
Lodge could help generate income for the camp."
––Rueben and Phyllis Knutson, Killdeer, ND

Since then, the Knutson and Jackson families have joined retired
Pastor's Jerry Erickson, Bob Boxrud, and Jim Sorenson and many others by giving
generously to help move the Lodge. Cash, pledges, and in kind donations to
date total $103,000! An additional $75,000.00 is needed by September 1 to
assure that the Lodge will be re-erected on the camp property this fall.

Please help as you are able. Gifts of ANY SIZE are welcome!

We have been blessed with good jobs, a prosperous economy and bountiful
rains in western North Dakota. Let’s show our gratitude to God by giving
back through Badlands Ministries "Love the Lodge" fund.
